While April is widely known as Parkinson’s Awareness Month, it is also Occupational Therapy Month!
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational Therapy (OT) is more than a profession—it’s a passion, and it’s about people. It’s a science-driven, evidence-based profession that enables people of all ages to participate in daily living or live better with injury, illness, or disability. This is accomplished through designing strategies for everyday living and customizing environments to develop and maximize potential. By taking the full picture into account—a person’s psychological, physical, emotional, and social make-up—occupational therapy assists people in:
- Achieving their goals
- Functioning at the highest possible level
- Concentrating on what matters most to them
- Maintaining or rebuilding their independence
- Participating in the everyday activities that they need to do or that simply make life worth living
Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants are experts in helping people perform the occupations they need and want to do every day.
Legacy Home Health Care is proud to offer occupational therapy, along with physical therapy and speech therapy, as part of its in-home services. Providing these therapies in the comfort of patients’ homes can greatly enhance their quality of life and independence. It allows therapists to tailor treatment plans to individual needs and environments, leading to more effective outcomes.
By emphasizing collaboration between therapists, patients, and their care teams, Legacy Home Health Care ensures that therapy goals are realistic and attainable. This approach not only promotes physical rehabilitation but also supports patients’ emotional well-being and overall independence.
In recognizing Occupational Therapy Month, we acknowledge the dedication and expertise of occupational therapists and assistants who play a vital role in improving the lives of individuals facing various challenges.
