Here at Legacy Home Health Care, we’re celebrating Healthy Aging Month throughout September. With slightly cooler weather and the holidays swiftly approaching, there’s no better time to evaluate lifestyles and find areas where we can improve our habits to develop healthier practices.

Healthy Aging Month isn’t just a catchy phrase—it’s a call to action. It’s about stepping into the driver’s seat of our own health journeys, focusing on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This month is a chance to embrace habits that help us age with grace, keep our independence intact, and improve our physical health wherever possible. Whether it’s taking that extra walk, swapping out some of our not-so-healthy snacks, reconnecting with old friends, or picking up a new hobby to keep our brains buzzing, it’s all about small changes that make a big difference.

Where to Start

If you’re looking for a little guidance on where to start, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion has a fantastic tool: the Move Your Way™ Activity Planner. This planner is all about YOU—your goals, your favorite activities, and what keeps you going. Spend a few minutes selecting your preferences, print out your plan, and keep it handy to track your progress through the week. It’s like having a personal coach right at your fingertips!

Take a Hike

Here in Florida, there’s never a lack of things to do and places to see. Our state is full of trails for hiking and biking and there are options for every age and skill level. We found this wonderful site by Florida Hikes that lists trails in each of our service areas. (Did you know that we now cover 23 counties in Florida?) Check out the links provided to see listings and photos of hikes in your area.

Check Your Plate

Is it time to take a look at your dinner plate? Our eating habits play a huge role in how we feel day in and day out. Are we getting the right mix of nutrients? Is there an area where we need to cut back? The ODPHP’s Healthy Eating Routine infosheet is a simple, straightforward guide to help us make smarter choices at every meal.

We all hope to stay healthy and active without needing extra help, but if you find yourself in a season where you or a loved one could use some assistance, Legacy Home Health Care is here for you.
